The link for the list of organizations that endorsed this is not working. Is there some way I could still access that information? I am trying to establish some key recommendations that NGOs and legal scholars have put forward.
Thank you so much for your time and all the best,

I have a small business with a product that will help reduce water pollution across Canada. I am looking to promote this product with the support of environmental groups and foundations. I will attend the event coming up in Winnipeg on November 9th. My business website is LEIT.ca and my business is called Low Environmental Impact Technologies.

Canada’s Fisheries – Especially West Coast
I would like to see the streams supporting the salmon runs (that have been destroyed by the logging and mining industries) restored to allow salmon to spawn and carry on in B.C. Improvement in this area will be for other animals, as well, and, eventually, will allow the return of a strong fishing industry in Canada.

My problem with the survey is that I would vote for the Green party, but I can’t in my riding. No Green candidate. At this point I am waiting to see who has the best chance of knocking our present Conservative MP out of office. I can’t answer the first question in the survey.

Getting rid of the Conservative incumbent in my riding is no. 1 . Voting on any other basis is not on. I just have to hope that the party I vote for is committed to doing the right things to protect our environment and the laws involved. So, I am sorry that I can not sign the pledge. Perhaps, in the future, if we get some form of proportional representation in government, our elected leaders will give up on the petty bickering, and attend to what matters most, such as a healthy environment.

A Healthy Sustainable Environment is Intrinsically Linked to Healthy Sustainable Economy. Fear of a healthy and sustainable environment undermining a fiscally strong Canada is the elephant in the room. It doesn’t need to be there.
We need to show that NOT taking care of the environment is a death knell for our economy. Therefore, political platforms need to be scrutinized for what is missing as well as for what is present in their economic promises as well as their environmental commitments. Is overspending in one area of the economy going to undermine commitment to the environment. Is a need to placate one group of people (e.g. corporate leaders) going to undermine the environment. If there is a promise to return scientists what is the timeline and which scientists – all or a select category?
In short, there needs to be an easy way for people to become informed about the impact of all aspects of a party’s platform or missing areas of their platform on the environment and parliamentary processes. Usually avoiding a critical category or doing political speak on a catefory is framed as an economic concern. As a large number of citizens don’t seem to care whether their government is acting legally or with integrity or with transparency, highlighting the consequences of government actions and party platforms on the economy is I think another powerful way to get people’s attention.
Currently there are many examples of how Canadians have had their economic and environmental futures betrayed by the current government. While interested Canadians usually have many examples in their minds, there are some aspects that I think are powerful that I haven’t read anywhere. For example highlighting that in choosing to sidestep parliament in the free trade agreements made with China, we have now linked our economy for 30+ years to an economic giant that is going down. We need to realize China will take us with them as they ravage and pillage our resources in environmentally unhealthy ways to sustain their own fiscal needs. I haven’t read this anywhere. I think all Canadians would be concerned about this as it hits them in their pocket book as well as their lungs.
Do any of the political parties have a commitment to return decision making to the House of Commons from the PMO? Without that as a baseline it doesn’t matter what they promise, any future Prime Minister of any party can continue to act as a dictator. So that is a legal promise that must be made for us to have any hope of a legal, moral, democratic country.
Thank you for the work you do. These are just a few comments that may be useful in your pursuit of a legally, sustainable environment.
Our NDP candidate here in White Rock/South Surrey is your perfect guardian for the environment. Pixie Hobby is an environmental lawyer with an impressive bio: http://surreywhiterockndp.ca/pixiehobby/
