Bill C-69 is aimed at fixing some of Canada’s key environmental laws, including the laws that govern navigable waters, energy regulation and impact assessment for projects like pipelines, mines and dams. While the Bill has some flaws, ultimately it’s a significant step forward for environmental protection. And if it doesn’t pass, we’ll be left with weak, gutted laws that prioritize industry interests.
Right now the Bill is facing major hurdles in the Senate, and the oil and gas industry is working hard to delay or kill the legislation.
The Senate Energy, Environment and Natural Resources Committee is planning a national tour to hear from people across the country on Bill C-69. While details are still yet to be confirmed, the Committee is expected to visit Vancouver the week of April 8th.
At this critical time, the Senate Committee needs to hear from people like you who support strong laws to protect nature, democracy and our climate.
You are invited to a workshop hosted by West Coast Environmental Law on March 25th in Vancouver at 3:00 pm to help prepare to engage with the Senate during their tour. If you are interested but unable to attend the workshop in person, let us know as we may be able to allow participation via videoconference.
RSVP today to learn how you can help urge the Senate to pass strong legislation that works for Canadians and our climate!
